Below are definitions of terms or expression used on this web site that may, or may not have been fully explained:
Tae Shin Do Self Defence: Loosely translated to mean, "the new way", Tae Shin Do is a system of self defence techniques that have been developed from a number of various styles of martial arts to give its user a total package of passive and aggressive self defence techniques that can be used in almost any type of threatening situation; from kids at school trying to get out of a hold without hitting the bully and thus not giving any reason to be suspended, to an individual being attacked by a group of armed thugs and having to invoke numerous debilitating blows to escape.
Small Circle Theory: This is the theory that describes the techniques developed by Professor Wally Jay under the offical title of "Small Circle JujitsuTM". These techniques are employed to cause severe pain to joints of an aggressor in order to achieve a release from a hold or a submission, by the use of very little force. The small circle theory is the term given to a "push - pull" action that attacks a joint and causes intense pain to the owner. For example, by applying of a small amount of effort against a fully extended joint against the normal direction the joint moves, an immense amount of pain can be inflicted. This "push - pull" action can be used by a person on a much stronger aggressor and still causes severe pain or damage to the joint under attack. Putting this theory to practice is a very potent weapon, and particularly useful for women and children as intense pain can be created by the use of very little force. For more information on the Small Circle Theory, please visit Prof. Wally Jays' website at: http://www.smallcirclejujitsu.co.uk/. This theory is been placed into action in most Tae Shin Do techniques and is displayed in the Tae Shin Do book titled, Common Sense Self Defence.
Ju Jitsu: An ancient style of martial art originally taught to Samurai Warriors by Buddhist Monks so that if they lost their sword during a battle, they could still adequately defend themselves. Ju Jitsu uses joint locks, throws and strikes to vulnerable areas of the body to take down assailants. It teaches you how to defend against armed and unarmed assailants, break out of holdsby the use of joint locks and takedowns.
Common Sense Self Defence: The logo of the Tae Shin Do style and the title of the book.
Hard Style: A hard style of martial art is one that employs the use of strength to perform its kicks and punches. It relies on the strength of the person performing the technique. Karate and Tae Kwon Do are hard styles of martial art. The stronger the strike is, the more effective the technique will be. Tae Shin Do mainly uses the "Soft Style" of martial art in its performance. Martial arts like Ju Jitsu and Aikido are soft styles of martial art because they use the attacking force of the aggressor, and then redirect that attacking energy into the joints ofthe aggressor, causing intense pain to bring about a submission. Striking is used in Tae Shin Do, but the strength of the strike does not dictate how the "fight" will end. Normally, by the time a strike is employed, it is usually performed after the aggressor is already on the ground and it is used as a secondary measure to ensure that the aggressor doesn't get up too quickly, giving you a little extra time to make your escape.
